Waterford-New-Music-Week

New Music Week celebrates music composition & performance with workshops, talks, lunchtime recitals, evening concerts and a silent movie classic accompanied by live music. New Music Week is presented by the Department of Creative & Performing Arts WIT and Garter Lane Arts Centre, with the support of The Arts Council and Waterford City Council. All daytime events are free and take place right across the city; from the Cork Road & College Street campuses of WIT, to Garter Lane Theatre, Christ Church Cathedral and the Central Library.

The 2013 festival will include a new mass composed by Julie Quinlan:
Celebration Mass written for choir, brass, percussion and organ was composed in 2009 to honour her Dad, Michael Quinlan's achievement of fifty years in City of Waterford Brass. Julie herself is celebrating thirty years as a member of City of Waterford Brass this year, with twenty of those as Musical Director of the band.
The Mass recieved it's premiere performance on 12^th Novemeber 2011 in St Pauls' Church with City of Waterford Brass, the St Pauls' Chapel choir and guests. Earlier in 2011 parts of the mass were performed by the Oldham Choral Society and City of Waterford Brass during their visit to Waterford City. It was indeed a great honour for all the musicans and Julie to accept an invitation to perform a 'live' RTE broadcast of the Mass on 2^nd December 2012 from the RTE studios in Montrose.

As part of Waterford New Music Week 2013 in conjunction with the WIT Music School, WIT Creative and Performing Arts Department, St Pauls' Chapel Choir and guests 'Celebration Mass' will be perfomed on Sunday February 10^th at 12 noon in the Cathedral, Barronstrand Street.
